This is the perfect treat to involved the kids in - let them choose their favourite toppings to sprinkle over the melted chocolate.

INGREDIENTS

  • 300g dark couverture chocolate, broken or roughly chopped (the good stuff from the supermarket)

  • 200g of your favourite toppings. We used 100g hulled pistachios (roasted is best, 15min in a 130 degree oven) and 100g dried cranberries

EQUIPMENT

  • A plastic microwave proof bowl

  • Heatproof spatula

  • Baking tray

  • Baking paper

  • Metal spatula

  • Knife (optional)

  • Microwave

METHOD

  1. Place baking paper on baking trays and get your toppings ready.

  2. Place the chocolate in your plastic bowl and microwave for 1 minute. Melt the chocolate and stop at 10 second intervals to stir in between. Continue until you have 50% solid chocolate and 50% melted/liquid chocolate (you may need another 15 seconds to get to this state).

  3. Continue to stir without applying any additional heat, this can take a few minutes. It’s important to stir continuously until all the chocolate has melted. If you can see a few solid bits that have not completely turned to liquid, you can apply a little heat with a hair dryer and continue to stir.

  4. You’re now ready to make your chocolate bark.

  5. Pour the chocolate onto your baking paper lined tray.

  6. Using a metal spatula, spread the melted chocolate evenly.

  7. Have fun sprinkling your favourite toppings evenly over the melted chocolate.

  8. The Chocolate Bark should set in approximately 5 minutes (milk chocolate takes approx. 7 minutes to set).

NOTE: If you wish to test if your chocolate is tempered, cut a little square of baking paper, dip a corner in the chocolate, it should set shiny and smooth in about 5 minutes.
